This weeks Article is on Hookah Etiquette
|
When smoking hookah there are a few etiquettes that you may want to take into consideration, as this will keep all the smokers in your party happy. Some of these are as follows:
►Remember, smoking a hookah is not just about smoking, it?s about socializing. So when smoking a hookah, make sure to share evenly and have fun.
►As a courtesy, turn the hose connection of the metal stem toward the next person as you are handing them the hose.
►Never light a self-lighting charcoal on top of the hookah- the extra smoke will overwhelm the tobacco flavors.
►Do not blow smoke in the face of another person.
►With a multi-hose hookah, do not blow into the hookah hose to clear the smoke while another person is smoking.
►Never light your cigarette with the charcoal on your hookah.
►Never put your hookah on a height (I know this could be a little inconvenient if you don?t have a large hookah, but a hookah is supposed to rest on the ground, not on a table).
►The right way to give the hookah to the next person; is to first put it down on the floor and let the next person pick it up. But if you must pass it to them, make sure that the Hookah Hose is pointed in your direction.
►Don't smoke anything but tobacco out of your hookah.
►Never share your plastic mouthpiece with another person, as it does not promote good hygiene.
►When you are finished smoking hookah, wrap the hookah hose around the metal stem.
►Try using arak or vodka instead of water, or if your under the age try using juices like lemonade
►If possible do not use household aluminum foil for your hookah (the foil used to cook or store your food). It is proven that aluminum can cause Alzheimer?s and we suggest buying special foil from your local hookah reseller for this. These foils are specially made to alleviate from this issue or you can use special screens meant for hookahs
►It is recommended not to place your Hookah on top of a table because traditionally hookahs are not to be put on the table.
►Only smoke cigarettes if an ashtray is provided, and never ash your cigarette in the charcoal dish.
►And last but not least, never smoke a hookah by yourself: This is a social tool and should be used with the enjoyment of friends both old and new.

Recipe of the week:
|
Baklava
INGREDIENTS:
► 1 pound unsalted (sweet) butter, melted (It really has to be butter)
► 1.5 pounds (24 ounces) chopped blanched almonds
► 1 pound shelled walnuts
► 1 pound filo dough sheets
► 2/3 cup granulated sugar
► 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
► 1 teaspoon ground allspice or cloves
► Syrup:
► 2 cups honey (bring back any from Greece?)
► 2 cups water
► 2 cups sugar
► 2 cinnamon sticks (or 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon)
► 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (or to taste)
PREPARATION:
Thaw the filo before starting. Melt the butter.
Grind or chop together the walnuts and almonds, and mix together with the cinnamon, allspice or cloves, and sugar. Using a rectangular pan, preferably a 9x13x2, brush the pan with the melted butter. Separate a sheet of the thawed filo. Keep the rest covered by, but not touching, a damp towel. Handling it as little as possible, lay a sheet of filo in the bottom of the pan. Brush it with butter. Fold it over if necessary to fit in the pan. Do this until you have about 10-12 layers. Then put a layer of the nuts and spices mixture on top of the sheet of filo, cover with another sheet of filo, paint that with butter, and continue in this manner until you've used all of your filling. Top with about an equal amount of the filo sheets as you used for the bottom. If you're a little short or a little over, don't worry about it. Too many layers can get a bit gummy, however. Be sure each sheet is brushed with butter.
Cut across the completed baklava with a sharp knife, into triangles or diamonds. Bake at 350 for about an hour, or until evenly browned on top
Syrup: Simmer together the syrup ingredients for ten minutes and strain. Set aside. A good time to make this is just after you've put the baklava into the oven. Pour the cooled syrup over the baklava and let it sit before serving.
